TYPE OF APPOINTMENT:   Academic year, tenured appointment at the
                                                   distinguished professor level
STARTING DATE:                 Either August 18, 2007, January 1, 2008, or a later
                                                   start date is negotiable
SALARY:                                 Competitive for an academic-year appointment
                                                   (mid-August to mid-May) based upon qualifications
                                                   and experience
FTE:                                          Full-Time

The department seeks a person at the rank of distinguished professor. The successful candidate will be a molecular biologist who has a well-established, internationally recognized program of research. This person will also participate in teaching and provide service.

DUTIES:
Seek and obtain external funding to maintain an active program of research leading to publication of results in the appropriate media.
Teaching expectations commensurate with an appointment as a distinguished professor.
Provide appropriate service to the Department, the College, the University, and the profession.
The successful candidate for the position should be eligible to work in the U.S. prior to the starting date of the position.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A doctorate in the biological or chemical sciences.
A distinguished record of research in the field of molecular biology as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications in top-tier journals, sustained external grant funding, innovation and productivity in research objectives, and conference presentations at major national and international conferences.
Commitment to high-quality academics as evidenced by teaching philosophy statement or history of courses taught.
Research, teaching, and service experience sufficient to qualify for an appointment with tenure as a distinguished professor at the University of Kansas. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Evidence of effective interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills.
Interest or experience in developing and writing training or program project grants.
Evidence of mentoring graduate students, postdoctoral-fellows and junior faculty.
Evidence of administrative or editorial experience.
Ability to communicate ideas clearly and to work effectively with others to carry out normal department and university activities.
Candidates who will contribute to the climate of diversity in the College, including a diversity of scholarly approaches.
