Irving Johnson Distinguished Professor of Molecular Biology

The University of Kansas is recruiting an outstanding scientist under the BioMed Valley Partnership agreement, into which the University of Kansas has entered with the Stowers Institute for Medical Research (SIMR). SIMR is a founding member of the BioMed Valley Corporation, a nonprofit corporation with a mission to transform the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area (BioMed Valley) into one of the premier locations for basic cell and molecular biology research and discovery development. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work in close collaboration with researchers at SIMR.

DUTIES:

  1. Maintain a vigorous research program in the general area of cell and molecular biology, including external grant support and publication in recognized refereed journals.
  2. Carry out basic research in cell and molecular biology research on genes and proteins that control fundamental processes in living cells.
  3. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in cell and molecular biology.
  4. Supervise masters thesis and doctoral dissertation studies.
  5. Participate in departmental, College and University service activities.
  6. Participate in local, national and international professional conferences and other activities appropriate to the discipline.

The successful candidate should be eligible to work in the U.S. prior to the starting date of the position.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Doctoral degree (Ph.D., M.D., M.D./Ph.D.) or equivalent in biology or related field.
  2. Demonstrated ability to obtain and maintain external funding as evidenced by curriculum vitae.
  3. Publication in leading peer-reviewed journals.
  4. Research, teaching, and service experience sufficient to qualify for an appointment with tenure as a distinguished professor at the University of Kansas.   5. Commitment to high-quality undergraduate and graduate education as evidenced by teaching philosophy in the letter of application.
  6. Demonstrated strong written communication ability as evidenced by letter of application and publications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Specific areas of interest include but are not limited to vertebrate developmental biology, cancer biology, and cell communication.
  2. Ability to communicate ideas clearly and to work effectively with others to carry out normal department and university activities.
